Drug use of any kind can be seen as on a continuum…the range would be: when casually used, when abused, or when actually addicted. These lines between these categories are gray at best, but a plethora of websites and blogs speak about the differences.
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. has a test that allows someone to evaluate to what extent they are addicted.
On the website are tests for alcohol abuse, drug abuse and one for teenagers about their drug use with consequences. For instance, it may be true that someone is using and feeling like they are in control when they are not.
Although these tests are not diagnostic tools, they may be illuminating for someone to look objectively at their drug use, as it may be a revelation as to how dependent someone is on their drug of choice.
Listed also on the site are ways to get help.
Because this website is intended to help determine if someone has a serious drug or alcohol syndrome that may adversely affect health, relationships, and family life, it may be a catalyst for change or even a call to enter counseling or a treatment program. If such is the outcome of taking the test, it may be life-saving.

I hope this test and information can be helpful to anyone who has questions about a very serious issue impacting record numbers of teenagers, adults, and families. Check it out if you think it would be helpful to you.
