One of the growing issues in our country is child autism. According to the Autism Society more than 3.5 million Americans live with an autism spectrum disorder. The current prevalence of diagnosed autism is estimated at 1 in 59 births and the incidence of autism in U.S. children increased by 119.4 percent from 2000 to 2010. It is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities in our children.
The challenges that face parents of children on the autistic spectrum are often immense. There are so many life obstacles to overcome. Yet with the right help and support by caring parents, capable professionals and a community of support many of these obstacles can be overcome. Here is one story about Ben Hartranft having grown up in a supportive home, is so inspiring that he ended up on the Elllen Degeneres show. I think you will find his story uplifting.
Here it the video of his story in this momentous television appearance.
This story is one of many that should encourage all parents and families of children who are on the autistic spectrum. I appreciate Ellen’s enthusiasm and care for this young man. He is truly a great example of all that is possible for children and adults who have autism.
