Due to the COVID-19 virus many changes have occurred in our society and all over the world. The mandates to isolate have caused all kinds of changes in our lives. In our region the schools have closed, social distancing and masks are required and we are under a “stay-at-home” mandate unless you are going out for essential tasks in your job or getting food or necessary supplies for your home.
What this has done has changed the nature of family relationships drastically. Children and teenagers are at home with their parents. Also they are using online programs for continuing their schoolwork. Parents are placed in positions where many have to work at home while helping their students with their online classes. This is a huge change in their roles. Parents have become the teachers, the caregivers and the emotional support agents for their kids every day and all day. It is certainly a huge pressure-test to the parent-child relationships and this constancy of connection creates many stressors that can be incredibly difficult to manage.

Joining me and as a way to support parents, Diane Wagenhals, my fellow blogger, Program Director for Lakeside Global Institute, parenting educator and author will be addressing some of the key issues that parents face with their kids. This video series will be on YouTube in a new series entitled Coping with COVID-19 for Parents. This series has been filmed in a casual interview style where we discuss some of the prominent issues in parenting which we believe have been intensified during this lock-down phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our parents are facing many challenges that are unprecedented in recent history. As they deal with conflict, communication needs, their own parenting legacies, a variety of stressors and the intensified demand for guiding their children, we believe that parenting support is vital during this time. Diane and I will be discussing some key concepts and approaches that we hope will provide help and support for parents.
So be looking this week here and on YouTube for our Coping with COVID-19 for Parents series. There will be 8 sessions in total and we will release a new one each day. I hope this series will be both instructive and encouraging to all parents who are striving to lead their children and protect their families during the global health crisis of COVID-19.
