This year has been tumultuous for so many families. We have lost loves ones, lost time in schools, had our jobs compromised and still we have launched into another phase of COVID-19.
The stress on so many of us has been great and sometimes with that kind of low ceiling of anxiety we find ourselves in a mixed set of emotions during the holidays. We want to enjoy the holidays even though we feel the intensity of anxiety-based emotions.
It is why holidays are so important. We have the opportunity to spend a few days in a space where we can relax, reflect on the deeper spiritual meanings of our faith, experience traditions that calm us and spend valuable time with family and friends. I think the holidays can be a great source of regulation and hope to bring us some rest and relief from the world of stress that we have experienced throughout this past year.
I would suggest that we all embrace the joy of this season together and use the respite to lift the stress and replace it with the joyous perspectives of the gifts we have been given in life and in the glorious season of celebrating God’s gifts to us! We all need that refreshment of spirit, mind, and body.
I hope you and your family will enjoy this holiday celebration. Perhaps it can be a renewal and refreshment of our very souls as we enjoy its deep meaning coupled with our most precious and valued relationships.
Happy Holidays and thank you for reading Lakeside Connect.
