Every now and again, a story like the one of Jamie Daniels emerges. It is a story of an individual who desperately needed a drug addiction program, went to a system where there were a number of “Sober Houses” that were an extension of drug rehabilitation programs in Florida.
Sadly, some programs abused insurance companies, took advantage of their clients, and in this case, Jamie Daniels overdosed and passed away.
It is such a tragedy to lose a young man to a drug overdose.
But it is equally tragic that his parents believed they could entrust the life of their son to systems that should be caring for their clients. Instead, they found out their son had been shuffled within a corrupt system designed more for profit than for helping a drug-addicted young man.
I think this article shows some frightening realities in a drug rehabilitation system we need to correct in our country.

There is little we can do to rectify the injustice for Jamie, but perhaps we can raise awareness to the possibility that someone who is supposed to be safe in a rehabilitation environment may be tremendously vulnerable.
For those who have family and friends in addictions’ rehabilitation, it may be wise to check the credibility of the treatment program in which they are participating. It may save their lives.
